$500 Truist Checking Bonus

Here's one that's worth a look if you live in the right footprint: Truist is offering $500 for opening a new checking account and hitting two fairly light activity requirements.

How to Qualify

You'll earn the $500 bonus by:

  • Opening a new Truist One Checking or Truist Marquee Checking account between 7/14/26 and 2/2/27 using the promo code from the offer page

  • Receiving at least 2 qualifying direct deposits totaling $2,000 or more

  • Completing at least 20 qualifying debit card purchases

  • Meeting both requirements within 120 days of opening the account

The reward lands in your new account within 10 business days after everything posts and is verified.

Which Account to Pick

Truist One Checking is the everyday option — $50 minimum opening deposit and a $12 monthly fee that's easy to waive (direct deposits, a $500 combined balance, being a student, or being under 25/over 62 all work).

Truist Marquee Checking is the premium tier, built for people carrying a $250,000+ combined balance — $100 minimum deposit, $35 monthly fee, and it actually pays a token amount of interest. Unless you're already sitting on serious balances at Truist, One Checking is the more sensible pick for chasing this bonus.

Important Eligibility Rules

You will not qualify if:

  • You're currently the primary holder on an existing Truist personal checking account

  • You closed a Truist personal checking account on or after 7/14/25

  • You're under 18, or you're a Truist employee, director, officer, or local board member

You'll also need a physical address in one of the eligible states: AL, AR, FL, GA, IN, KY, MD, MS, NC, NJ, OH, PA, SC, TN, TX, VA, WV, or DC.

One catch worth flagging: a qualifying direct deposit has to be an ACH credit like payroll or a benefit payment. Zelle transfers, RTP, account-to-account transfers, and deposits made at a branch, ATM, or via mobile check deposit don't count. Same for the debit card side — ATM withdrawals and Zelle don't count toward your 20 purchases, but everyday swipes at the grocery store or gas station do.

Bonus Joe Take

$500 for two direct deposits and 20 debit swipes is a genuinely light lift compared to a lot of bank bonuses that demand $5,000+ in deposits or a longer hold period. If you're in an eligible state and can route a couple of paychecks through the new account for four months, this is a solid one to add to the queue.

The state restriction is the main limiter here — this one's off the table if you're outside Truist's Southeast/Mid-Atlantic footprint. And as always, watch the account closely near the 120-day mark so you don't lose the bonus to a low balance or a restricted account at payout time.
